About a year ago, I got J a book of about 2800 cocktails, which means for the past year we’ve been experimenting with a bunch of different things. We have made it through only a very small percentage of the book, but I’ve learned a few things:
- as with tv, music, and many other things, our tastes are pretty much orthogonal
- there is no reason to add sugar to a drink, ever
- simple is just as good, if not better, than anything with half a dozen ingredients
- especially since we’re unlikely to actually have everything required
- I can’t tell if my martini is shaken or stirred
Bloody Mary is the most complicated thing I usually drink, unless someone else is making it. π
Ew. Tomato juice. π
I’m lucky that the book I gave J produced someone who’s willing to make them for me.

LOL love it. π It can’t be shaken unless you’ve got a cool tag line to go with it. π
btw, if it was shaken there would be miniature ice particles in the drink. Which is why Mr Hot Shot liked his rough, rather than the civilized, gently stirred smoother version most people enjoy. π
I would claim that I’m trying to avoid ice particles in my drinks, but really, stirring means I don’t have to wash the shaker, too.
