{"id":1288,"date":"2013-09-10T09:00:59","date_gmt":"2013-09-10T14:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elizabethshack.com\/blog\/?p=1288"},"modified":"2013-09-09T21:52:52","modified_gmt":"2013-09-10T02:52:52","slug":"in-which-we-meet-lots-of-sheep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elizabethshack.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/10\/in-which-we-meet-lots-of-sheep\/","title":{"rendered":"In which we meet lots of sheep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Or, the second part of our trip to Europe.<\/p>\n<p>On the Saturday after we arrived, we drove to Perry Green to see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.henry-moore.org\/pg\">Henry Moore sculpture garden<\/a>, which had a special exhibit by Auguste Rodin. (Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.henry-moore.org\/pg\/virtual-visit\">virtual tour of both men&#8217;s sculptures.<\/a>) The Moore sculptures are outside, and widely spaced, and for the special exhibit the Rodin sculptures were dotted around the landscape as well. It was a really nice setting to see the art, especially the larger pieces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9379516015\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5523\/9379516015_edd5e4f205.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3202\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9379515625\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3693\/9379515625_9679d4142a.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3201\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t expect to walk through a sheep pasture to see things. The closer one here is called &#8220;Sheep Piece&#8221;. The sheep seemed to appreciate its shade. The sculpture in the distance is called &#8220;Large Reclining Figure&#8221;. I was not impressed with Henry Moore&#8217;s titles. <\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, since we weren&#8217;t that far from Cambridge, we drove up there and walked around, looking at the ornate buildings. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9379521687\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3816\/9379521687_7c057d54e2_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3252\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9382304982\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3667\/9382304982_85bfe2919b_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3266\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9382308462\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3687\/9382308462_ea6a67f1c6_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3278\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI like the light and shadows in that one.<\/p>\n<p>We peeked through the gates into a lot of courtyards.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9379524789\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3790\/9379524789_e54d80d586_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3274\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9379530369\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/2866\/9379530369_da426c0e5a_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3299\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I bet the students just love all the tourists. <\/p>\n<p>Then we stopped for dessert. I had Eton Mess, which is broken up chunks of meringue mixed with cream and topped with cherries and walnuts. It&#8217;s like a big pile of the topping for a real dessert. Tasty, but different.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, we went on a walk along some canals.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9382533499\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/3747\/9382533499_5f744ec9b8_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0080\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Basingstoke canal didn&#8217;t have much of a current and was covered in bright green algae, at times a solid mat. There were a lot of locks, which I imagine makes traveling very slow.<\/p>\n<p>Cygnets! We saw some that were almost adult-sized, and some very small ones still on a nest with one parent while the other supervised from a few feet away.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9379537461\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/2822\/9379537461_0abd1cfc47.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0074\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/38223129@N05\/9379538039\/in\/set-72157634830535784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5504\/9379538039_a1ac5dffb1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0077\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stopped for lunch at a pub where I got very tasty (and hot, and greasy) fish and chips. It seemed like the appropriate choice.<\/p>\n<p>We took a different route back, not along the canals, and passed a field of corn.
