Between the shade, the hard rains that smushed the lettuce into the dirt to rot, the bugs carving holes in the rutabaga and cabbage leaves, the squirrels digging up seeds, and something (rabbits?) taking chunks out of almost everything), I don’t think we’re going to have much to eat.<\/p>\n
Next year, I’m digging a vegetable bed in the front lawn, since the tomatoes and peppers out there seem to be happy (there’s a lot more sun).<\/p>\n
I’m going to build better rabbit fences too – I haven’t seen any rabbits in the garden, just the yard, but something’s eating my veggies.<\/p>\n

\ncabbage – doing ok except for the bugs\/rabbits
\nlettuce (2 kinds) – only one kind came up? killed by rain
\nkale – doing ok, slightly nibbled
\nchard – didn’t like the rain, being eaten by rabbits
\nspinach – hardly sprouted, got eaten
\nrutabagas – same as cabbage
\npeas – hardly grew, never bloomed
\nbroccoli – same as kale
\nparsley – ok, some stems bitten off<\/p>\n
Planted 5\/2:
\nYellow pear tomato (plant) – some flowers, no fruit
\nBasil (plant) – same as parsley, but it would like more sun<\/p>\n
Planted 6\/7:
\nBok choy – lots of sprouts, got eaten
\nBeans (date est.) – squirrels dug up seeds
\nZucchini (date est.) – never sprouted<\/p>\n
Planted 6\/13:
\nEggplant (plants) – ok, one plant got the top bitten off
\nPepper (plant) – doing great, some peppers
\nIn containers in the front, all plants: Better Boy tomato, purple bell pepper, habanero pepper, stevia – all great, getting some tomatoes and some flowers on the peppers<\/p>\n

\nBeans (again) – sprouted nicely, some got nibbled yesterday
\nZucchini (again) – 3 look good, 1 got eaten
\nBok choy (again) – lots sprouted and then the leaves got eaten
